What is the price of money?
Some say money is heaven, others say money is devil. Whatever the meaning of money, we have to admit that money is important in this day and time that we are living in.
Humans, after some sort of civilization, have come to understand that every human has their own purpose and every human is different. Some are good at hunting, some are good at foraging, some are good at building, some are good at mending, some are good at inventing, and so on. With such realization, humans started exchanging with each other. This process of exchanging is given the name barter.
Barter has been on for many years in all continents and continues to date. We exchange food for services and vice versa. We exchange time for money and vice versa. We somehow just call it differently now that money is in the picture.
Money only started when humans discovered metal elements in the earth that we step on every single day. Gold has been valued the highest from then till now. Gold is the most precious metal ever discovered on earth, or rather should I say in earth. When gold was discovered, humans gathered from near and far, through thick and thin to harvest gold from beneath the earth. Has anyone ever questioned why gold is so sought after even before humans ever discovered that gold is the most inert metal on earth? Who put the value on gold?
After gold, there’s silver, copper, and so many other precious metals being discovered from beneath the earth. Just as we dig through earth, we discovered more and more elements of different nature. Somehow, we managed to put a price tag onto each one of them. How is everything valued? Who are the people valuating them? What makes their valuation accepted by everyone around the world?
Humans are very creative and with all the creativity, humans have turned rocks into valuable items too. Once just an organic matter like you and me, put under pressure for millions of years to finally turn into the hardest stone on earth. It was just a piece of clear glass like stone later given the name diamond. I would have to salute the person who wrote “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. Thanks to Leo Robin’s lyrics, diamonds made headlines and soon enough, all women’s eyes glow when they see diamonds.
When everything is priced, money became the only tool for barter. Every single thing that we see and use today can be bought with money. Every single thing from the water and electricity, to treatment of sewerage, to the books and pens, the tumbler that is used to contain water to the computer that I am using to write this post, the internet and the world wide web. Literally every single thing has a value in terms of money.
Even we as humans have been given a value. Yes, you are reading this right. Each of us has a price tag already tagged on us from the day we were born. Even countries have been given a value too. This world has been divided into advanced, developing, and under developed countries. Those who are born in advanced countries are priced higher than those born in developing countries. Unfortunately for those born in under developed countries are often looked down upon so much that even children are exploited in many ways.
Money is the cause of corruption, some say. But money can also make life better for everyone. I will try to make this easier to understand. Money is a great invention. It is the human greed that makes devils.
Money is angel. We can do so much with money, only if we choose to love money. Just imagine if the wealthy are all willing to share, there would be no hunger in the world. It is how we perceive money as that makes us who we are. I choose to believe that money in abundance can help me build my dream, my Secret Sanctuary. Thanks to my daily meditation, I am enlightened.
Time is more valuable than money. You can get more
money, but you cannot get more time.
