Very often we choose to ignore people, or events that are not pleasing to us. Perhaps we should, in some cases.
This morning, while meditating, my boy (dog) came right next to me wanting attention from me. While he knows this is my alone time, he tries his luck to get some belly rubs. His intention is pure, he only wanted love but he came at the wrong time. I usually would give in to him in all circumstances but this morning is different. I chose to ignore him and continued on with my meditation. After a while, he just lay next to me taking a nap. He did not give up, he just gave in to me.
Many of times we encounter ignorant people. Sometimes we are okay with them and sometimes not. Perhaps it also depends on the character of the person.
Some people are born ignorant to anything. Whatever you ask them, they will tell you they do not know or it has got nothing to do with them. This kind of people is very annoying. They lack the sense of responsibility to anything in their life. Perhaps we should learn to ignore this kind of people as they ignore the life they can make good use of. However we try to educate them to improve their life seems to just go to waste. We can try to help them in more subtle communication, wherever possible but there is no need to angst over the situation. It would only saturate our mind with undesirable thoughts.
Some people are born responsible. They would take up responsibility in whatever they do and also responsibility of others. They are the gem of all friends because they will help us in whatever situation we are in. While most are around to help genuinely, there will be some who enjoy the moments they are given the responsibilities of taking care of other people’s problems. Sometimes they get their life overwhelmed with hitches and cause their own life to be chaotic. The successful responsible people will try their best to help others passionately but never emotionally. As long as we can balance our life, it is always great to be helpful.
There are events that happen in this world that we unknowingly ignore, but really are important that we face it. Such situations happen all the time. World events that happen daily such as global warming. We need to address this issue to the best that we can because we only have one place to call home, planet Earth. Ice caps are melting at a rate faster than they can regenerate. We may think that we do not live in the Arctic or Antarctic so this has nothing to do with us.
Do you realize that the weather is less predictable now than it was a decade ago?
Global warming is an issue of the world. It is everyone’s responsibility to keep this world safe. As the sea level rises, lower lands and smaller islands will cease to exist. Some flora and fauna will extinct. The world we know today will be changed forever if we choose ignorance. Now is the time to take action. Every little action counts. It is by choice.
We can choose to use air conditioning only when the weather is scorching hot. We can choose to go on road trips and tour locally instead of flying across the globe just to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. We can choose to communicate through the internet rather than conglomerating people around the world in one single conference room for a meeting. We can choose to go back to basics and reduce single use plastics. We can choose to use the rubbish bins properly rather than letting litter fly with the wind.
Every decision we make has its consequences. We are born to be different. Most importantly, we need to realize the responsibility bestowed upon us on the day we were created. Some say that is Adam and Eve story and has nothing to do with modern men. True. But there is one thing we need to defend till our last breath that is the next generation. We want them to also enjoy the world as we did. Education starts early. If every human has the same thought to defend Mother Earth, she will be here for centuries more.
Ignorance might be bliss, but it also has teeth.
