We almost always hear people saying when the door closes behind you, there is always a window awaiting ahead.
Why does it have to be a window? Why is it not another bigger better door? Has anyone ever questioned what our parents and teachers tell us? Or we are just living by their way of life because we think they must be right all the time? Or we are just plain too lazy to build our own path?
Questions are great! Questions make us ponder. Questions make us wonder. Questions make us find the answers. Without questions, there will be no answers. Without question, there is no reason to find an answer. Somehow, in the olden days, parents never like children that have too many questions and usually label them as problematic. While they may sound problematic, what they really want is an answer to their question. It is the only way we can understand life better. It is the only way we can grow to become our unique self. We are not clones of our parents.
Please do not get this wrong. Parents are great. They love us. They want the best for us. But they are not us. They do not know what our future looks like because we are the ones building our own future. Never ever live in the footsteps of others. We are all different individuals and we should all lead a different path for ourselves. No two person is ever the same.
If we are to live thinking about that open window when we feel stuck, we would probably find some comfort but we are still stuck. We are still in that room with no doors. We still cannot get out of that room unless we find a way to climb out the window. What we see from the window means nothing if we do not make something of it. It is just a view unless we choose to do something about it.
Remember Alice in Wonderland? She is a great character we should all learn from. She is daring, sometimes stupid. She learn from her mistakes and use her thoughts to find new escape plans. She tries and never gives up. Though she is in a magical land, what makes us think that we are not? As real as our world seems, there are always magical things happening around us. It is up to us to discover.
We, especially when living in the urban areas, have problems with security. We trust people less. We tend to think that when someone approaches us, they are here to either rob us literally or trying to sell us something, which is also in some way cheating us of our riches. Sometimes, we just avoid them because they are scary. Why are we so skeptical? Perhaps we have had bad experiences before. Could it be that our past experience is just a test? Could it be that our past experience is laying a path for the better of us? Why are we closing doors right in front of us?
The first men were born roaming the earth. They lived in caves. They always have escape plans from hunger and danger. We, on the contrary, are living comfortably in our homes with doors and windows but we choose to keep them shut and locked most of the time, whether or not we are in the house. We are so afraid of the bad guys who would come into our house to harm us or to take away our belongings, we sometimes even add security grills to all doors and windows so to make it difficult for a break in. We have subconsciously told ourselves that there is no escape. When it is hard for thieves to break in, it is also not easy for the residents to walk out.
Why have we complicated our own lives so much? It can be as simple as can be but we have chosen the total opposite of what life really is. If the front door is locked, just go to the back door. If the back door is also locked, find a way to make a side door. Get help from left right above and under. Always believe in ourselves and take action to move forward.
Be the mouse! There is always a way to create a new door.
The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
